Sarah leaned back against the chair she had been sitting in for the past hour or so. Her Chem book was open on her lap and she stared down at it. Her notebook rested on the arm of the chair already loaded with a page and a half full of notes and formulas. She glanced over at her watch. She still had fifteen minutes before lunch break was over. Maybe she would be able to finish this chapter. She began to scribble more notes a little faster, somehow managing to keep them legible. She flipped the page and groaned. She hated structural formulas. They were the only thing stopping her from getting her A in Chem. But she was determined to get it through her already packed brain.
Tristan wandered into the Great Room peeling a banana. He had already eaten his lunch but was still hungry. He took a large bite and began chewing as he walked slowly behind the chair Sarah was in. Class doesn't start for another fifteen minutes. He said with a full mouth as he yanked the book from her lap. He held it in front of him and looked down at the text written on the page. What are you doing?
Hey! Sarah tried to grab the book back as Tristan lifted it over her head but was too late. She tilted her head back to look at him and frowned. Come on Tristan. I need this fifteen minutes to study. She balanced her notebook on the arm of the chair before setting her pen down on top of it and getting out of the chair.
Tristan swallowed his mouth full of banana. Study for what? You have a test next period or something? He kept the book open in his palm as he raised it above his head out of her reach. He didn't dare close it knowing she would hit him if he lost her spot. He just loved teasing her about studying too much.
Sarah reached for the book but was just short enough she couldn't touch it. No. But you never know when Shelhammer is going to spring a pop-quiz. She jumped for the book but Tristan moved his arm out of the way. Tristan I'm not kidding. Give me back my book.
Tristan looked at Sarah as he ate his banana, moving his arm just out of her reach each time she snatched at the book. Sarah, give yourself a break. We haven't even been here a week yet and your already stressing over nothing.
Sarah was beginning to get annoyed. It wasn't her fault if Tristan cared nothing about his school work or the grades he got. Even though he could get a B without even trying. But couldn't he just leave her to her manic study habits?!
It's not nothing. It's my future. She moved around to his side and grabbed his arm, fighting to make it bend and bring her book down to her.
Tristan was trying not to choke on his banana as Sarah fought with his arm. He could feel the book getting offset and tried to keep it steady so it wouldn't fall. Well, slow your role a little. It won't kill you to take a break and have some fun. You get A's in everything. He was actually a little envious of her smarts but she was always the best person to turn too when he needed help with something.
Sarah used his arm for leverage and jumped, pulling herself upward. She grabbed the book from his hand and quickly steadied it before it slid to the floor. haha! She got it. I do take a break. She said as she went back around the chair to sit again. I sleep every night.
Tristan rolled his eyes. That wasn't what he meant. No, I'm saying you need to party a little, meet people. Get drunk. He thought about that and changed his mind. Okay...not the drunk part. He knew she wouldn't do anything of the sort anyway.
He finished his banana and leaned over the back of the chair, dangling it next to Sarah's head as he read what she was writing over her shoulder. Come with me to Twilight Hours tomorrow night. I'm meeting a bunch of guys from my Calculus class at 8:30.
Sarah was already shaking her head. She didn't know what Twilight Hours was, but she didn't like the way Tristan used it in that context.
You never know, you might have fun. Maybe meet some people. He was implying more of a guy figure, but Sarah meeting anyone was okay with him. As long as she got her mind off of school. How she could constantly think about it 24/7 was beyond his thinking abilities. he was lucky if he even thought about it for an hour...no...a minute.
I can't Tristan. We came into the school year a little late, I need to get caught up with everything I missed and I still have to read Hamlet for Youngken next week. I'm swamped. I have no time. Her eyes darted from the text book to the notebook paper as she wrote and back again.
Tristan sighed in frustration. I'm not going to take no for an answer. He leaned down again and this time took her notebook, causing the pen to make a long black line across her notes. Now, you can only have this back if you agree to come with me and the guys.
Sarah squeezed the pen in annoyance wen Tristan stole her notes. She glanced at her watch. She only had ten minutes left. It would be easy for her to just grab a new notebook and rewrite her notes, but that would take even longer and she would run out of time. She pressed her eyes shut and took a deep breath.
I guess it couldn't hurt. She mumbled. Besides, as soon as she got her notebook back she could just forget Tristan even asked her to come with him.
A grin spread across Tristan's face. Good. He lowered Sarah's notebook back down to her. Okay, I'll meet you down here at 8:00 tomorrow. He leaned up from the chair. Now I have to get to class. See you at dinner. He tossed his banana peel in the bin near the door as he left.
Sarah looked down at the black line stretching across her paper. Well, her notes were still readable. Yep....see you then. She grumbled absently as she started again on her notes for the remaining eight minutes she had left.
